There are five competency goals for Middle School Mathematics for eighth grade. I am expected to teach students how to understand and compute with real numbers, use measurement concepts, understand and use properties and relationships in geometry, graphs and data analysis, and linear relations and functions. My students will be expected to keep up with their prior knowledge and be flexible in their learning habits and learn new strategies. I also hope to add in real-world concepts to help in their understanding of Math.
The NCDPI site offers resources and tasks that I would find helpful and useful especially in my earlier years of teaching. This site is a wonderful resource for a teacher at any stage in their career.

Yesterday my husband finished the remodel of the bathroom. All that’s left there is to paint and tile. (so I guess we’re not really finished with it yet). Jessica loaded up her car with some “stuff” and took it with her yesterday as well. Her room looks like an empty place now. I told Alisa (my 17 year old) that her room looks like my insides feel. She told me to stop being so dramatic. Well, I guess we all have to let go sometime. More later.

Search Findings – Teresa Watson
The first search engine I used was Google. This led me to several useful sites on Math lessons. Google is a wonderful resource, so I almost always try it first.
The second one I used was Educational Websites for Teachers. I found numerous sites where there are lots of free lesson plans to choose from and lots more advice from veteran teachers which I find to be most helpful.
The third search engine I used was InfoWeb. This one led to the NCDPI where the NCSCOS can be found. As future educators, we all need to be familiar with the standards of our content area and grade. This site also contains information on what the government is doing in respect to budgeting and employment.
All three search engines have the availability to use key search terms and contain a variety of useful information.

My name is Teresa Ann Watson. I use my full name because there is another Teresa Watson in our cohort (or there used to be). I will be turning 40 this summer. I have two teenage daughters (18 & 17) and am raising my 5 year old niece. My life has been about my children since my oldest was born. Every decision made has been one that could possibly benefit them later in life. I have been married for 20 years.
After graduation from South Caldwell High School in 1988, I was not encouraged to further my education, so I went to work instead. I didn’t think college was an option for me.
After being laid off in 2005 from Broyhill Furniture, I made the decision to go back to school. So I enrolled at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute and graduated in 2007 with my Associates Degree in Middle Grades Education. After graduation, I took a job at Bernhardt Furniture Corp. since I also enrolled in the Middle Grades cohort through ASU and was, once again, laid off in November of 2008.
I am looking forward to finishing my Bachelors Degree so I can begin my career as a teacher.
